The Beginning
Shroombab started listening to drum'n'bass around 1996 when she discovered
the sound of her heart during a trip to UK. At this time she was already
writing for different music magazines (e.g."Breakbeat Magazine") when she
was invited to start her own radio show ("Electronic Vibes") at Radio FRO
back in 1998 on a Saturday night. Many guest DJs appeared on her show and
their sound gave her the inspiration to start dj-ing herself. At the
beginning she mixed in the studio of the Austrian non-profit Radio FRO. In
spring '99 it all started, Shroombab had her first public performance at an
open-air party. The rest is history: She got a residency at Donau, a large &
very well-known Vienniese bar where many local DJs started their career and
which consists of a very nice architecture and central setting. More and
more people listened to her sound and liked it, so she got her first
bookings at some clubs like Kunstwerk and Subzero, and she got
invited for many local radio shows @ Radio Orange and national radio shows
at FM4. Shroombab also made the 2nd place at a "DJ Contest" in 1999. Apart
from that, she started writing party reviews for Austria's largest
event-webpage (club.at) and reviewing drum'n'bass-records for the "Breakbeat
magazine".
DJing
In 2000 Shroombab met MC Terra and together they founded the Junglistic
Sistaz, a female Drum'n'Bass-collective. Their crew soon became very
popular, and many club promoters invited the girls to play. Together with MC
Terra, she started to run the clubnight "BASS LAND" which established itself
as a fixed institution in the scene - many local and international DJs
played at their Friday night sessions. Apart from numerous national bookings
to the best and most established clubs all over Austria alongside
established acts like DILLINJA, DOM&ROLAND, DIESELBOY, DJ STORM,
BAD COMPANY, SPOR, BSE, NOISIA, ED RUSH, CYANTIFIC, SKYNET, MAKAI, DYLAN & ROBYN CHAOS, STATE OF MIND, CONCORD DAWN, SIMON BASSLINE SMITH, CHRIS RENEGADE, COOH,
MICKEY FINN, APHRODITE, EVOL INTENT, RASCAL & KLONE, ALLEY
CAT, DJ SPICE, COUNTERSTRIKE, ILL.SKILLZ, DJ MARKY, MATRIX,
PANACEA, RESONANT EVIL, ADAM F, JOHN B, MC JENNA G, MC RAGE,
or - mostly as a headliner herself - Shroombab also got a growing number of
international bookings since 2001. Especially in 2003 and 2004 she played at
lots of clubs and festivals all over Europe. In November 2003 she attended the
"Red Bull Music Academy" in Cape Town (South Africa), and was
chosen as a participant from more than 2000 entries. Nowadays, Shroombab is
a truly international dj and she is well-known for her online mixes that are downloaded
by more than 4000 people monthly. In 2004, she got a residency at D.Kay &
Rawfulls weekly clubnight"Beat It", at Vienna's most well-known club "Flex",
where she still plays regularly as a “Homebase” in Vienna.
The Style
Shroombab is nowadays known for spinning mostly hard drum'n'bass with
dancefloor-orientated rhythms, wicked basslines, melodic darkness and
atmospheric breakdowns. Never expect exclusively a "greatest hits"
selection, because she is spinning a lot of more diverse nasty breakz with
some complex beatz in it. Her mixing is fast, and tight. She has established
herself as one of Austria's most booked drum'n'bass-djs, and definitely as
Austria's first lady of drum&bass. Her current favourite labels are Human,
Project 51, Subtitles, Metalheadz, Cargo, Signal, Cymbalism etc.
Producing
Additionally to DJ-ing, Shroombab always had a big interest in music
production, and it was also back in 2000 when she started producing. Since
this time period she collaborated with Mr. Polarity from Germany, Tomkin
from Trickdisc Recordings and since the end of 2003 she also works on solo tunes.
Shroombab & Polarity were a dream team production-wise and in March 2002
they founded the drum'n'bass-label "High Tension Recordings. Their first
release "Stronghold/Rolling Thunder" got a huge success. Their tunes got
dropped into sets by L Double, Andy C, Nicky Blackmarket and many more
big name DJs. In 2003 the tunes "Double Trouble"/"Bad Motions" got released
on Aphrodite's and Mickey Finn's imprint Urban Takeover, and was
included into a mix-cd by Aphrodite for V2. From 2003 onwards Shroombab
also had various releases on labels like Urbadon Rec. (USA), Protogen (GER), Giana Brotherz (GER), Trickdisc (A), and Phunk Fiction (GER) etc. One of her tunes
also appeared on a Knowledge-Mix-CD in 2006. The latest release is no drum&bass
though, it is pure DUBSTEP released on Dubkraft (RO) in late 2007.
Gender Issues
Apart from establishing herself as international dj & producer, she also
devoted her love for drum&bass to another project: She launched the website
http://www.junglistic-sistaz.com as an international data:base for female
junglists with a daily growing number of female artists. Meanwhile seven
Junglistic Sistaz events took place internationally at some well-establsihed
clubs in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Poland and UK. Apart from that,
Shroombab launched Junglistic Sistaz Radio, first at http://www.dnbradio.net,
Later moved to http://www.bassdrive.com that represented DJs from over
15 different countries. The show was closed in 2006.
The Progress
At some point Drum&Bass was not enough anymore and her heart starteted to
beat to BREAKZ and DUBSTEP as well. In 2005 Shroombab startet to play
dirty breakz with electro influence as well under her nick "REMODEL". She got
her first bookings at well-respected breakbeat clubnights in Vienna - Crazy @ Flex,
Addiction @ B72, Breakz Addiction @ Massiv. In 2006 she released
one of her breakbeat productions on a compilation CD for the "female pressure" network.
Her first breakbeat bookings in Romania and Germany followed soon. Now she
is known and established for playing both styles - drum&bass as well as breakbeat –
as well as producing both styles. In 2007 she also got into filthy dubstep. After a
Bounce-Party with DJ Chef in Vienna she got totally hooked on the huge basslines,
that originally brought her to drum&bass. A few month later, her first dubstep tune
ever got signed two hours after finishing it – by the well-respected DUBKRAFT
label from Romania. More things to follow!

Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Russia, Poland,
Estonia, USA and South Africa.
